Halo Reach, Alan Wake, Fable 3, and Xbox Kinect Stickers Available on GetGlue

GetGlue, my personal mobile check-in app of choice, just launched a series of reward stickers for something near and dear to my heart – video games. Special rewards for big-name Xbox titles like Halo Reach, Fable II and Alan Wake are available if you check in to these games using the Glue app for Android or iPhone (still waiting on BlackBerry). There are also some dedicated Kinect stickers if you’ve got that newfangled accessory that detects your movements with an eerie amount of accuracy.

Don’t worry you non-gamers, GetGlue spans a wide variety of topics, like TV, movies, books, wines, celebrities… the list goes on. I find it’s a great way to inflect Facebook status updates with some visuals, not unlike Foursquare. The nice thing about GetGlue versus Foursquare is that it isn’t location-dependent, and spans a much broader spectrum of use. Most stickers you get from checking-in to particular topics 5, 10, and 15 times, but there are other more fun ones for, say, writing a bunch of reviews, or taking too long to finish reading a book.

As for this Xbox partnership in particular, I’m really happy to see that GetGlue is spreading out from spending most of their time on TV shows and more time on something I spend an unhealthy amount of time doing. Hopefully it won’t take long for stickers on other gaming platforms, like Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3, and hey, maybe even PC, to get their own dedicated rewards. I’m not much of a Halo guy myself, (or even an Xbox guy) but I know lots of folks are, and they’ll be pretty excited about the new rewards. Usually, the stickers are only virtual, but for every 20 you get, you can request that they mail you physical ones so you can show your achievements in the real world, too.

Anyway, GetGlue’s a pretty cool social network, and if you think you can squeeze one more in between Twitter and Facebook, this should be it. You can find the mobile app in the Android Market, or in iTunes at the link below.
