T-Mobile Dell Streak 7 launching February 2 for $199.99

We heard a few weeks ago that the Dell Streak 7 for T-Mobile might be launching February 2, and today the carrier confirmed it via Twitter. The 7-inch Android tablet will be launching on Wednesday for $199.99 with a two-year contract after a $50 mail-in-rebate. T-Mobile also says that you must have a qualifying plan, so be sure to check if it suits your needs before taking the plunge.

Although the Dell Streak 7 may sound like it’s a direct successor to the Dell Streak 5, it’s more a tablet than it is a phone. Well, it’s not a phone at all. The 7-inch touchscreen Android handset sports Android 2.2 Froyo, which might be a deal-breaker for those waiting for 3.0 Honeycomb. On the plus side, the Dell Streak 7 supports T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 4G network, so data-intensive apps and web browsing should be pretty speedy.

The Dell Streak 7 also has a camera on the back and a front-facing camera for Qik video chats, features that seem to be coming standard on Android tablets these days. And, of course, being an Android 2.2 device the Dell Streak 7 also fully supports Adobe Flash content and videos so you get the full web in your browser.

If you’re looking to pick up an Android tablet soon, and the wildly popular Samsung Galaxy Tab just doesn’t do it for you, the Streak 7 may not be a bad choice. However, with Google unveiling Android 3.0 Honeycomb this week, and tablets on the horizon that will feature the new OS along with NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processors, it might not hurt to wait, either.
