AT&T reminds customers that they don’t want the Verizon iPhone with a new ad

You can almost smell the fear in AT&T as the day many of us have been waiting for draws near. Tonight at midnight PST and 3 a.m. EST, the Verizon iPhone will go on pre-order for existing customers. Next week, on February 10, the general public can stake their claim on the CDMA Apple smartphone.

While we’ve already covered the Verizon iPhone in great detail, the only differences between it and the GSM version on AT&T are the mobile hotspot capabilities, the antenna design and the ability to make phone calls while using data on the GSM version. It’s that latter feature that AT&T is really pushing for its current customers who might be considering switching to greener pastures (i.e. a carrier whose network actually works).

In the ad, we see a girl talking on the phone and buying movie tickets at the same time. It’s cute, but many joke that you’d have to be able to place and sustain a call first. Second, how many of you currently rely on the simultaneous voice and data feature, and how many of you can live without it?

It seems like a desperate move for AT&T, albeit a smart one considering the big deal made out of the feature during the Verizon event, so we’ll have to see what else the carrier has up its sleeve until February 10 hits.
