ViewPad 4 getting Gingerbread update in April

We’ve hinted before that the ViewPad 4 will get the Gingerbread update in April and now we have it officially confirmed. Moreover, I assume ViewSonic won’t be the only handset maker to release an Android update for its product — other companies will most likely follow at that time or even before. That said I’m not sure why they insist the ViewPad 4 is “one of the first” Android phones to be supported by Gingerbread when they only announced the update — as opposed to making it available.

As you know, the ViewPad 4 rocks an all-touchscreen form factor and specs that include such things as a 4.1-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and 720p HD video recording capability, 1GHz Qualcomm processor, HSPA and WiFi connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth and so on. On top of the Android core, it runs the custom ViewScene UI that makes use of the GPS to adapt the home screen to the applications you may want better access to. For example, the display shows social networking updates at home and business related applications at work…
