Digital content services provider NewBay launched LifeCache Digital Vault 2.4 to provide music, photo and video cloud services for operators and device makers. LifeCache Digital Vault allows users to go beyond proprietary music clients like iTunes and access their image, music and video files from anywhere.
In order to take advantage of the service, users copy their online purchases and CD collections to the cloud and listen (stream) to them from any connected computer, mobile handset, tablet or TV.
Operators and device makers on their end monetize the service via storage subscription and by targeted premium content offers based on user content metadata. Users’ listening habits and stored content provide insights into their tastes and preferences which can be used to offer recommendations for purchasing related content. The similar concept works with videos and other types of content.
In related news, NewBay signed a global licensing agreement with LG Electronics for LifeCache Social Networking Gateway (SNG) to expand the existing deal beyond Android-powered LG smartphones.
