We’ve been on the ground at the Mobile World Congress 2011 and I got a chance to hop aboard a boat to check out the CyWee Air Shuttle, a wireless video streamer for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and other Apple products. Why was I on a boat? I have no idea but check out the demo video below anyways.

The Air Shuttle wireless video streamer plugs in to the proprietary dock (it has an official Apple accessory logo) and the receiver plugs into a television via a component cable. Right now, it can only blast out in standard definition but another version that works over WiFi will be able to do HD in the future.

You may be asking why you would want this and there are a few cool use cases. The Air Shuttle wireless video streamer will let you share you photos and videos on your TV, as well as those apps that have enabled the video-out function. We saw a music app and art viewer which will also let you share content with your TV.

One cool thing about the Air Shuttle wireless video streamer is that it still has all the support for the gestures and accelerometers, so you can make your iPhone a gaming machine. We saw a demo of Rage HD streaming to the TV and there was no lagging involved.

The CyWee Air Shuttle wireless video streamer is also available for Nokia and Samsung devices via a 3.5-millimeter jack (as long as the phone supports video out). Look for it to hit the United States later this year under the PCD line for about $100 or so.

To me, this is a direct competitor with Apple AirPlay and going against that company doesn’t seem wise. But the CyWee folks told me that there’s plenty of room for multiple players – just think about how many developers would like a way to quickly show off their apps on a big screen.
