LG announced on Thursday that the Optimus Pad will be available for pre-order in Japan starting March 15th. The Korean manufacturer is teaming up with Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo to offer the 8.9-inch tablet. The Optimus Pad model L-06C will be tailor-made for its Japanese audience with BeeTv, a wireless entertainment service, and 2Dfacto, a reading application for eBooks and comics.

Other than these extra applications, the Japanese Optimus Pad is the same model that will land in Europe and Asia and the same as the G-Slate which will debut on T-Mobile in the U.S. The 8.9-inch tablet features a 1 GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor, a display with a 15:9 aspect ratio and 1280×768 resolution, dual five-megapixel cameras that support 3D recording, full HD 1080P video, HDMI output to televisions (including 3G content for 3G-capable TVs) and all the other bells and whistles you find on a high-end Android tablet. Similar to the Motorola XOOM, the Optimus Pad will be powered by Android 3.0 Honeycomb, Google’s tablet-optimized mobile operating system.

We were able to take a closer look at this 3D-capable tablet at Mobile World Congress. Check out our hands-on review here. The full press release from LG is available on the second page.
