Sprint offers remote lock/wipe for BlackBerry and Android smartphones

Sprint offers a wide range of BlackBerry and Android smartphones, so customers have a number of ways to get their personal info stolen or compromised. To combat this, Sprint is offering a remote wipe, lock and location service for its BlackBerry and Android handsets that are also covered by the carrier’s Total Equipment Protection plan.

The Total Equipment Protection plan, or TEP, costs $7 per month and Sprint strongly suggests users do what they can to protect their private data and smartphones. The cost of an unsubsidized smartphone is outrageously high, and this new service can help users locate lost or stolen phones. It might not always result in the return of an undamaged device, but it does help from time to time. If the device can’t be recovered, a user can wipe the data on the device wherever it is.

For more details and info on this new feature, see the press release on the following page.
