omcast has been doing some cool things with its iOS apps to turn your Apple products into cool remotes but the company is now bringing that love to the Android side of the things as the Comcast Xfinity TV app has just hit the Android Market.
According to the company’s blog, the Comcast Xfinity TV app for Android includes:
Starting today, Xfinity digital customers with Android-powered devices now can change channels, program their DVRs, search and browse TV listings or On Demand content and search by various filters — including genres, networks, and titles, all from their mobile device.
The Comcast Xfinity TV app for the iPad lets you stream videos wherever you have Internet connectivity but that’s not in the Android version yet. The company promises that this will come to future versions of the Android platform, so your shiny new Xoom should become a TV-watching machine in the not-too-distant future.
Of course, there may still be some concern about the DRM abilities on Android and the Comcast Xfinity TV app. We know that Netflix had some beef with this and that the streaming movie service will only be coming to select SnapDragon handsets that provide it the right amount of security and content management. Let’s hope this doesn’t become a major issue, as it could lead to an even greater issue of fragmentation.
