Back in 1991, there was a video game called Another World (or Out of This World as it was known when it was released in the US) that revolutionized the gaming industry with its cinematic effects, graphics, and cut scenes. At the time, games have yet to reach a maturity that Another World did as SEGA released Sonic the Hedgehog and Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past so a game like Another World was completely ground-breaking. That’s why today’s news has me really excited as BulkyPix and DotEmu have announced they’ll be bringing Another World to iOS later this year.
In case you’re one of the many who have never played this cult classic in gaming, you play as Lester Knight Chaykin who is a young scientist who is flung through space and time by a nuclear experiment that goes wrong. You’ll need to fight your way through the unknown world Lester finds himself in in order to escape it.
Eric Chahi, who is the original creator of Another World, had this to say about today’s announcement:
“I’m very pleased to work with my developer friends from DotEmu and their partner BulkyPix. The first prototype looks beautiful on Ipad, they are doing a great job on it.”
I personally am very excited about Another World hitting iOS. This is just another game that I remember from my childhood that I’m excited a new generation of gamer will get to experience. It may not be the flashiest game, but it’s certainly a game that will test your wits throughout the entire experience. I hope BulkyPix and DotEmu do the game justice and offer an easy control scheme to understand. An update in the game’s graphics wouldn’t hurt either as video game graphics from 1991 can look a tad dated in the year 2011.
