Motorola Xoom with Sprint branding spotted in the wild

The Motorola Xoom is the Android tablet for anyone even remotely considering an Android tablet. It’s probably the only tablet that can even be considered in the running against the iPad, but there is one pretty big catch — it’s extremely pricey unless you want to commit to a contract with Verizon. However, there may be hope yet as a Sprint branded version has just been spotted in the wild.

Since the Xoom is an EV-DO device, it makes sense that a version for Sprint would eventually become available. Unless users are waiting to get their hands on a Wi-Fi only version, options are pretty limited now. According to the leak, the Sprint version may even support its 4G WiMax network, which is great news for Android fans lusting after the Motorola Xoom.

Since details aren’t clear, there is a chance that a Xoom for Sprint would be WiMax upgradeable rather than being released with the pertinent radios inside. Still, having the option to use it on another carrier is bonus enough for those who want the device, but don’t exactly want to be tied with Verizon in any way.

Hopefully we’ll see the Wi-Fi version of the Android 3.o Honeycomb tablet hitting the masses sooner than later. Right now, the enticing thing about the iPad, besides its design, speed, ecosystem, App Store and ridiculously long battery life, is that anyone can own it regardless of their carrier preferences because it comes in Wi-Fi only models. When the first Android tablet to stand a chance was launched – the Samsung Galaxy Tab – it was only available through and with the carriers.

Sprint users, any interest in this thing or would you rather stick with an iPad and Overdrive 3G/4G combo? Feel free to let us know in the comments below.
