Wondering when you can get your mitts on HP’s adorably tiny Veer? Probably sometime this spring, as O2 Germany has confirmed that they’ll be offering the device in May. That gives us a ballpark release window for the rest of Europe, but who knows how closely North America will follow.
The HP Veer is a bit smaller than the Pre Plus, but bigger than the Pixi – the screen clocks in at 2.6 inches, with a 320 x 400 resolution. The camera handles 5 megapixels (no flash), while pictures can be stored on the 8 GB of internal storage. Standard stuff like an accelerometer, Wi-Fi b/g/n, 3G, and GPS are also included on the Veer, plus a dual-mic setup to reduce ambient noise in calls.
The Veer will be HP’s first real stab at using webOS to pierce the entry-level smartphone market; I trust that it will at least do better than the Pixi, but there’s strong competition in the lower end from Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry. There’s definitely some appeal with the miniature slider form factor, though… The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is so far the only one to give it an honest go. What do you guys think of the Veer?
