After launching OptumizeMe for Windows Phone 7, health and wellness company OptumHealth is going for the iPhone and Android users, allowing them to create and challenge each other to fitness competitions and trade both encouragement and “digs” along the way.
According to a recent New England Journal of Medicine report, healthy behavior actually spreads through social connections. In that sense, you can either use the OptumizeMe’s service or link to your existing Facebook account to create new fitness challenges. The application will track your and your friends’ progress on challenges and rewards you with virtual badges for achieved goals. Additionally, there’s the option to share motivation or create friendly competitions to achieve your health and fitness goals.
And that’s like a start. Future versions of the app will enable users to connect with virtual personal health coaches, who will guide them along the way.
Finally, during the CTIA, OptumHealth is conducting an onsite Walking Challenge for the event attendees. I’m sure IntoMobile CTIA crew is too busy playing with the hottest gadgets, though. 😉
