Samsung sues Apple right back for patent infringements

Apple recently filed a lawsuit against Samsung for its Galaxy line of phones and tablets for patent, trademark and design infringement. Apple claims, “Instead of pursuing independent product development, Samsung has chosen to slavishly copy Apple’s innovative technology, distinctive user interfaces, and elegant and distinctive product and packaging design, in violation of Apple’s valuable intellectual property rights.” Harsh!

But Samsung isn’t backing down. In fact, the Korean manufacturer is suing Apple right back. Samsung alleges that Apple has infringed on its wireless technologies in three countries. According to MacWorld:

According to Samsung, the lawsuits say Apple infringed on patents concerning reducing data transmission errors in WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) mobile networks, tethering mobile phones to PCs so the PC can use the phone’s wireless data connection, and reducing power consumption when transmitting data over HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) networks.

It’s believed that these lawsuits do nothing but end in lawsuits and stifle innovation, but companies in the wireless and technology industries just keep going at it. Meanwhile, this is me sitting and watching while waiting for things to play out.

What do you think of these lawsuits and counter-suits? It doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Samsung is doing this because we caught word of preparations for a counter-suit a few days ago. The question is: would Samsung have filed these claims if it weren’t for Apple’s own lawsuit?
