Samsung Apps operator billing launched in 11 countries

Samsung has announced operator billing for Samsung Apps in 11 countries, including Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Ukraine, Vietnam, India, Thailand and Indonesia. Up until this point users had to use their credit or prepaid cards, or cyber cash to pay for mobile apps. The idea is to make it easier for users to get apps, while at the same time making it profitable for carriers to push apps to their customers. At the same time, Samsung hopes operator billing will reduce security concerns users may have when entering their credit card information.

To promote the new billing system, the Korean company has come up with Buy Hot Apps, Get Cool Gadgets promotion, offering Samsung Wave users who purchase apps a chance to win various prizes.

I’m a big believer in operator billing, especially in the emerging markets where most people don’t have Internet-enabled credit cards. What do you think? Don’t hesitate to drop your two cents in the comments form below…
