The super thin, sexy, and powerful Samsung Galaxy S 2 just hit up the FCC, bringing some interesting news with it, as these filings usually do. It looks like we’ll be seeing the popular Galaxy S successor hit AT&T sometime this year, in all its dual-core, Super AMOLED Plus beauty.
While the FCC filing may be for AT&T, we may see the handset dance through FCC a few more times, as the handset could once again land on every major carrier in the US. We certainly wouldn’t complain about that. The original Galaxy S made quite the splash worldwide, and we expect the sequel to the massively popular handset to do the same. Shipping with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 8 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, Android 2.3, and extra goodies throughout, The Galaxy S 2 is powerful phone that will likely be an instant hit.
One of our main complaints about the original Galaxy S was that it felt downright cheap. The heavy use of plastics helped the handset feel light, but it hardly felt like a quality device. The Galaxy S 2 looks to have addressed the cheap-feeling factor, and feels solid in the hand, which brings a level of quality that we really haven’t seen from Samsung before. However, if we do see the handset hit all four carriers, we could see the return of some flimsy materials to “differentiate” themselves. Hopefully that won’t be the case.
The Galaxy S 2 has plenty to love about it, but like the original, the standout feature is its display. You’ll find the Super AMOLED Plus display on the GS2, which has 50% more sub-pixels than your standard AMOLED display, found on devices like the Nexus One. While we prefer the 4 inch mark for displays, we can’t blame Samsung for beefing up its new flagship handset with a larger, better screen.
We still have no time frame for the handset to grace AT&T, but we may not have much longer to wait.
