As we’re in the middle of the tablet revolution, not that many people will go for a dedicated reading device a la Amazon Kindle. Sure e-ink is cool but do we really need yet another gadget just for reading? I don’t think so and BeBook — which we usually know for their ebook reading devices — doesn’t think so as well. Hence they decided to join the tablet wave with a product of their own.
Called BeBook Live, it’s a 7-inch (800×600 pixels) tablet running Android 2.2 with a 2-megapixel camera, HDMI out and 4GB of internal storage. We don’t have the CPU’s megahertz count, but I would be surprised if it turns out to clock at more than 800MHz.
The good thing is the price – at $279, BeBook should be able to move quite a few Live units, offering a reasonably priced alternative to the Apple iPad and Motorola Xoom. Not that I want one — I like the 8.9-inch tablets — I just believe there’s a market for such devices. What do you say?
