Huawei to launch a “high-end” Android phone with 3.7-inch display later in the year

Chinese companies are getting super serious in the mobile game. ZTE already announced plans to emerge as one of the top 5 Android smartphone makers, and now we’re hearing Huawei will launch a high-end Android smartphone during the second half of the year. We don’t have all the details, but the rumor is that the upcoming device will rock a 3.7-inch screen, running some “custom 3D interface” on top of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

If I were at Huawei I wouldn’t waste my resources on custom UIs. Rather I would spend all the cash on designers to make the phone actually look cool. Let’s face it – most of today’s high-end smartphones are pretty similar, specs wise — at the end, we get to pick the design we like the most. Sure there are few differences here and there, but nothing major. All modern phones are pretty fast, all come with large screens and awesome displays. We can only hope Chinese handset makers will figure this out too and introduce some cool-lookin’ yet affordable devices…
