The daily deals company Groupon is teaming-up with the travel industry site Expedia to create what the press release says is the “unprecedented offering” which will connect consumers with travel offers, while at the same time giving travel suppliers brand exposure among millions of shoppers. The new service, Groupon Getaways with Expedia, will offer consumers deeply discounted travel deals from among the more than 135,000 hotels worldwide that work with Expedia. Starting in the US and Canada, with plans to expand to other countries, the two companies will also offer package deals, airline tickets, car rentals, cruises and destination activities.
The service, set to launch in late June, will follow the proven Groupon model, offering users a limited time to buy a discount voucher good for future travel. Discounts will be significant, typically around 50% off, and once a customer purchases a voucher, they can redeem it at a later date of their choice within the redemption period.
