iPhone 4 still outsells Android on AT&T and Verizon, says analyst

It may be about a year old, but the iPhone 4 is still holding its ground against the army of Android devices being launched nearly every week. And perhaps those who considered switching from the iPhone to another platform or device might have been convinced to hold out for iOS 5, which has looked very promising even in its early beta stages.

According to an analyst at Canaccord Genuity, the Apple smartphone is the top-selling smartphone for both AT&T and Verizon, and outsells Android handsets by a wide margin. And it’s not for a lack of admirable handsets on AT&T or Verizon, either. The former has one of our favorites, the Samsung Infuse 4G, and Verizon has a vast portfolio of high-end Android devices like the Droid Charge, HTC Thunderbolt and the Droid Incredible 2.

Apparently, even the iPhone 3GS held its own against Android for AT&T because of its very attractive $49 price tag.

It also doesn’t come as a surprise that Apple is leading in the tablet space for both AT&T and Verizon. The iPad and iPad 2 are far ahead of the BlackBerry PlayBook and the Motorola Xoom and Galaxy Tab.

It’s difficult to imagine how long Apple will maintain its lead over the likes of Android, but if it’s still keeping solid footing against the swarm of handsets from HTC, Motorola and Samsung, it could still be a long while.
