Sony Ericsson continues to expand its Xperia lineup, as the Xperia Ray is the latest device it announced that sports Android and a strong 8-megapixel camera.

Like the Arc, the Xperia Ray uses some of Sony’s technology from its television in the display. This handset rocks a 3.3-inch “Reality Display” that we really found to be quite beautiful – colors are bright and crisp and text looked great on the thing.

The Xperia Ray packs a 1 GHz processor (probably a Snapdragon) and it will be powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Like other device from Sony Ericsson, this will be getting some deep integration with Facebook to go along with its custom user interface.

The device will also sport an 8.1-megapixel camera with a Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor. Look for a bunch of neat features like face detection, geotagging and more but the video recording does top out at 720p HD, which may bother some of you who crave 1080p HD.

“We expect Xperia ray to appeal to consumers who are looking for a combination of beautiful design and a rich feature set. We are able to uniquely deliver this with a combination of premium materials and multimedia features provided by Sony,” Daniel Sandblom, Global Product Marketing Manager, Sony Ericsson said in a prepared statement.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray looks like a solid device and we can expect it to land in the third quarter in “select markets.” What do you think of this phone so far? Are you excited about it?
