LG Thrill 4G lands this summer on AT&T

It’s not much of a surprise but AT&T said that the LG Thrill 4G will land this summer with its glasses-free 3D display.

We first spotted the LG Thrill 4G as the Optimus 3D at Mobile World Congress and it boasts a “Tri-dual” architecture. That means it rocks a dual-core processor, dual-channel and dual-memory setup. While that’s a bit of marketing fluff, that does mean you can expect the Thrill 4G to be a powerful device when it does land on AT&T.

Of course, the major drawing factor of the LG Thrill 4G is the glasses-free 3D display, which lets you watch 3D content and play 3D games without the need to carry around dorky glasses. In our review of the LG Optimus 3D, we found that this technology actually works on the 4.3-inch screen even if it is a somewhat gimmicky thing.

Still, the LG Thrill 4G on AT&T should be an excellent phone regardless of the 3D capabilities. It rocks a dual-core TI OMAP processor, comes with support for AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ bands, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, front-facing camera and it features two 5-megapixel cameras which can record videos and photos in 2D or 3D. There’s no word on pricing yet but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this Android 2.2 handset land at a premium price.

“While consumer demand for 3D is relatively nascent, LG THRILL 4G both does 3D right and is also a superlative smartphone,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, in a prepared statement. “With a 3D camera on a smartphone, user-generated content has the power to shape the evolution of 3D behavior. This is an amazing dual-core superphone.”

It appears like 3D will be a big thing this summer, as the Sprint EVO 3D will land soon. You can check out our full review of that device here.
