Nokia updates the C5-00 and forgets to tell anyone, it now comes with a 5 megapixel camera

Nokia’s C5-00 may not have a lot of fans here at IntoMobile since it has a diminutive 2.2 inch screen, but make no mistake about it, it’s a full blown smartphone running Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2. Announced in March 2010, the C5-00 originally came with a 3.2 megapixel camera, but today Nokia has loaded press materials on their site for a new variant, the C5-00 5 MP, which is due to come out in Q3 of this year and pack a 5 megapixel camera along with more internal memory (50MB vs. 270MB) and RAM (128MB vs. 256MB), and for some odd reason an increase in weight from 89.3 grams to 95 grams. Other specs you should know about: it has GPS, quadband GSM support, dualband (900/2100 MHz) 3G support that goes up to 10.2 Mbps, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, FM radio, and … that’s about it. We don’t have a price for this thing, but we’re assuming it’s going to cost the same as the older version, meaning roughly 135 Euros. For that kind of dough you’re better off getting an ultra cheap Huawei or ZTE smartphone running Android.

If you’re the type of person who primarily makes phone calls and bangs out text messages, yet also wants to occasionally use GPS or browse the web, then this device is for you, but the ancient candybar form factor with a T9 keyboard just looks plain weird these days. We’ve got phones coming out with 4.3 inch screens and slide out QWERTY keyboards, so forgive us for saying the C5-00 is a bit out of date in today’s world. That being said, the non-touch version of Symbian is heralded by many as the best version of Symbian to ever come out of Nokia, so maybe there’s some good to the C5-00 5 MP.

Are you interested in picking one up? If so, why? We’d like to know.
