Sony Ericsson has finally released the Gingerbread update for the Xperia X10. As you can imagine, the new software packs a ton of changes including:
- Facebook inside Xperia – a series of integrations of Facebook into your multimedia apps, phonebook and calendar
- Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot and USB tethering support
- Music player with equalizer
- New photo widget that provides one click access to your photo gallery app
- App tray sorting – allows you to arrange apps in the order you want them
However, you should be aware that user data, such as contacts and messages saved in your phone memory will be overwritten. User data saved on the phone’s memory card is not affected, though. DRM content will be overwritten as well, and some apps like Creatouch, Neoreader and Quadrapop will be removed in the process. Finally, Mediascape, homescreen customization app will no longer be supported, while Moxier Exchange will be replaced by Android 2.3 Gingerbread Exchange support.
Ready? Check for the new software version from Settings and take it from there.
UPDATE: Apparently not everyone is getting the update. According to the SE Product Blog, this information is too premature and the update will be released during the next couple of days.
