LG Optimus Black and Samsung M930 Sprint launch dates leaked

The Sprint roadmap we saw last week has been updated with a few new devices. On top of the phones we’ve already seen, like the Samsung Conquer and the BlackBerry Torch 9850, the LG Optimus Black (listed as the LS855) and the Samsung M930 (a slider we had caught a glimpse of not long ago) are both listed and due to drop September 2. Of course, that date is always subject to the usual delays and changes, but it’s safe to expect them in time for the back-to-school rush.

The Samsung M930 will be launching on Sprint’s subsidiary, Boost Mobile. It’s squarely a mid-range Android phone, running Android 2.3 on a 1 GHz processor, and packing a 3.2 megapixel camera on the back and HVGA display. The LG Optimus Black is a little higher-end, sporting a 1 GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera (plus 2 megapixel camera on the front) and an extremely bright 4-inch WVGA touchscreen. The whole package is only 9.2mm thick, which is important if you want something that big to still be pocketable.

As nice as the high-end Optimus Black is, I’m more excited for the M930. A physical keyboard, decent specs, and going to an affordable prepaid carrier are all major bonuses. Of course, the Optimus Black will probably get OS updates a little more quickly, but if you’re going to be picking up a cutting edge Android smartphone, you might as well get something dual-core. We’ll let you know when Sprint gets official on dates for anything on the above roadmap.
