Cellular South to get the Android Gingerbread running Samsung Admire, looks a lot like the LG Thrive

Cellular South, one of America’s smaller operators, has just announced that they’ll be offering their customers a new Android smartphone running Gingerbread (version 2.3) called the Samsung Admire. Curiously, they failed to mention when it’ll actually become available and how much it’s going to cost. Some public relations people sadly work in offices where lead paint chips are considered snacks. Anyway, back to the Admire, it sports a 3.5 inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, it has a 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and while the specifications don’t say it has GPS, we’ve got a sneaking suspicion that it’s in there. Now it goes without saying that this is an incredibly average, almost forgettable smartphone, and if you’ve made it this far down the article then pat yourself on the back because you can be rest assured that you don’t have ADHD. We wanted to cover the Admire because we can’t help but feel that it’s a direct ripoff of the LG Thrive for AT&T. Check out the image below and let us know what you think.

We know South Korea is a small country and that the product designers who live there probably get inspired by the same cultural influences they observe in the city of Seoul, but this uncanny resemblance should be grounds for a lawsuit. In all seriousness tho, the one good thing about the Admire: It looks like it runs stock Android, and that has us jumping for joy since we’re not fans of hardware vendors sticking their filthy hands in Google’s code in order to “differentiate” themselves from the competition by throwing in some gaudy user interface that actually reduces productivity and increases the likelihood that your device will be unstable and need constant rebooting. We’re looking at you, HTC, and the mess you like to call Sense!
