Leak: Samsung Celox: Think of it as a Galaxy S II, but with a 4.5 inch screen and LTE

Everyone who touches a Samsung Galaxy S II comes to the same conclusion, it’s hands down the best smartphone on the market today. It still hasn’t hit American shores, but that’s due to change over the next few weeks. How does one improve on an already smashing success? By making it larger and faster of course! Say hello to the Celox, which leaked yesterday courtesy of South Korean publication IT Tong. It’s said to feature a 4.5 inch screen using Super AMOLD Plus technology, 16 GB of internal memory, 8 megapixel rear facing camera, 2 megapixel forward facing camera, 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1750 mAh battery, and most exciting of all support for LTE or Long Term Evolution. The spec sheet goes on to say that the LTE bands supported will be 800 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 1800 MHz. The first 2 are European bands, the last one is for Australia. The Celox is expected to hit the market next month, and pricing hasn’t been revealed, but considering what this thing is capable of … we’re not expecting it to be cheap.

Note that while Americans have been enjoying access to 4G LTE capable handsets, the rest of the world has had to wait. There are certainly other LTE network out there, most notably the one setup by TeliaSonera in Sweden that was the first commercial LTE network to launch all the way back in December of 2009, but the only devices that can actually run on said networks are boring USB modems or portable hotspots. The Celox, if the rumors are correct, could very well become the first LTE smartphone to land in Europe and Asia.

We’re highly curious to see what kind of battery life this thing gets, and how operators plan on supporting voice and SMS over LTE. The Celox can also do 2G and 3G networks, that’s a given, but will it need to connect to multiple networks in order to get the most out of it?
