While I was a bit harsh about how data caps could limit the innovation with Verizon 4G LTE apps, the just-opened Verizon Application Innovation Center is actually a really beautiful facility that offers a wealth of tools for developers.

At its core, the Verizon Application Innovation Center is aimed at helping app makers create the next-generation of 4G LTE apps that have the potential to change the way we work and play. Verizon used to be notorious for locking down its network and devices but it has seen the light and is looking at collaborating with various handset makers and app developers for the next wave in mobile computing.

Along with robots, a touchscreen wall showing off all the apps that are on Verizon devices and a high-tech jukebox, the Verizon Application Innovation Center has multiple labs that can be very beneficial for app makers. One room gives you a recreation of the 4G LTE network under any condition – you can see how your app works with two or five bars, as well as see how it would work on the Vodafone network.

There are also networking APIs which can save developers a ton of time and development costs, content tools and more. In conjunction with the 4G LTE Innovation Center on the East Coast, Big Red believes it can truly help innovate and it seems to be doing a good job so far. Check out the video below for a quick walk through.
