Amazon testing out tablet-friendly design

I rolled on over to Amazon.com this morning and was surprised to see the redesigned image you see above but then it all made sense: Amazon is testing out a more tablet-friendly design.

This isn’t just for its rumored upcoming tablets, as Amazon understands that devices like the iPad are becoming more and more prevalent and it needs to be ahead of that curve. In general, the Amazon tablet-friendly design takes many of the familiar elements of Amazon but makes it more finger-friendly.

Here’s what a product page looks like:

The upcoming Amazon tablets are also an important reason for this new design, as rumors suggest that these devices will come out for “hundreds less” than the iPad because Amazon believes it can make up the difference in content and product purchases. Having a clean, tablet-friendly design would make that easier to do.

The design is being tested out right now, so don’t trip if you don’t have it yet.
