The LG Optimus One is arguably the most successful Android device that no one knows about. For good reason too, it’s a midrange smartphone, so most of you guys probably don’t care about it. That being said, for the millions that currently are enjoying the Optimus One, you’ll be pleased to know that LG has finally announced the successor to your device. We’ve been calling it the Univa for a while now, but now it’s officially called the Optimus Hub and it’s coming out this October for just 200 Euros. It’ll run Android 2.3.4, have a 3.5 inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and a brightness of 550 nits, 800 MHz processor, 5 megapixel camera, and your typical 3G/WiFi/GPS radios. We’d say we’re impressed, but for that amount of cash you can get a used Samsung Galaxy S or a better specced ZTE or Huawei device. Most folks will prefer the LG since it’s a brand that they recognize, but we’ve never taken them seriously since they often stand in the shadow of South Korea’s more successful company, Samsung.
That being said, there’s a strong possibility that the Optimus Hub will end up on American shores this holiday season on several prepaid operators. It may even be offered for free on a postpaid contract. It’ll have to compete with the $300 Motorola Triumph on Virgin Mobile, which has a faster processor and a better screen. That 200 Euro price tag translates to about $275, which makes it cheap enough to buy unsubsidized and just shove your own SIM card inside. For $60 per month you’ll get unlimited everything if you sign up with either H2O Wireless or Simple Mobile, the former uses AT&T’s network, the latter uses T-Mobile’s. Depending on which 3G networks the American Optimus Hub supports, you should choose the appropriate network.
