Barnes & Noble is teaming-up with mobile app development platform Appcelerator to accelerate the deployment of Appcelerator Titanium apps on NOOK Color. Under the terms of the deal, Titanium’s 200,000 mobile developers will get a fast track to publish apps in the NOOK Store, which reaches millions of customers (we don’t have the precise figures, though).
Appcelerator on its end will also update its reference applications, documentation, and platform to easily integrate the NOOK Color SDK into Titanium Studio, Appcelerator’s enterprise-grade IDE.
Barnes & Noble will participate at Appcelerator’s CODESTRONG 2011 developers conference in San Francisco later this month, where the NOOK Developer team will present a breakout session on developing apps for NOOK Color on September 19.
It’s good to see Barnes & Noble taking a proactive role in promoting its tablet to developers. Simply put, they know Amazon will launch its own tablet which could disrupt the market in a big way and they gotta do something in the meantime. We’ll see where this goes…
