Samsung Galaxy S II X coming to Telus with dual-core 1.5 GHz processor

The updated 1.5 GHz dual-core version of the Samsung Galaxy S II heading to T-Mobile is finding its way into Canada as the “4G Samsung Galaxy S II X” – because that name was just begging for more crap to be tacked onto the end. No mention of pricing or release date, but it’s probably safe to assume it will be landing before the holidays.

The G S II X will support the 42 Mbps HSPA+ upgrades Telus recently launched across the maritime provinces of Canada, The screen got a bump up to 4.5 inches from 4.3, but has the same 800 x 480 resolution. NFC has been included, which is a nice touch, but still nothing more than futureproofing until infrastructure for mobile tap-and-go payments is in place. Of course, the dual-core processor is now clocked at 1.5 GHz, which is a nice bump up from 1.2 GHz. Like the original, there’s an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and secondary front-facing shooter for video calling, and the usual ameneties like Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. The  phone’s still running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it pick up an ICS upgrade shortly after it’s released.

Although there’s not a mountain of anything new in the style department, the incremental upgrades are enough to win over folks who skipped the first Samsung Galaxy S II. Head over to the Telus coming soon page for a closer look.
