LG Optimus EX announced for South Korea

LG today announced its new addition to the Optimus family, dubbed the Optimus EX. The Optimus EX is the company’s latest Android smartphone, which promises a super-bright 700 nits IPS display (a screen bright enough to be used outdoors even in direct sunlight). This phone is set to be released in South Korea. Aside from the screen, the phone will sport some other pretty noteworthy features like:

  • 1.2GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor
  • 4-inch screen to manage its super-bright picture display with WVGA resolution
  • Wi-Fi Direct support
  • DMB digital TV tuner (for South Korean use only)
  • DLNA support
  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • HDMI connectivity

The EX will be sold by SK Telecom, though we wouldn’t rule out North American and European versions of the smartphone as LG moves to replace the Optimus 2X and its carrier-branded variants. At the moment, there is no word as to what the pricing will be for this handset, but don’t be surprised if details were to surface within the next few days.

This seems like a pretty serviceable phone, but in a world with phones packing qHD displays on 4.3-inch screens or 1280 x 720 on 4.5-inch screens like the newly released Samsung Galaxy S II HD, this LG offering already seems obsolete.
