Sony Ericsson confirmed that all of its 2011 smartphones will get Android 4.0. The Dutch arm of the Swedish-Japanese handset maker turned to Facebook to announce the news, which will affect a number of devices such as Xperia Play, neo, neo V, mini, mini pro, Ray, Pro, active, arc and arc S. In other words, the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich is optimized enough to be able to run on phones with a single-core 1GHz processor or at least Sony Ericsson thinks so. The company will first release Gingerbread 2.3.4 updates, though.

Now we’re eager to see whether other smartphone makers share Sony Ericsson’s enthusiasm for the new platform. As far as we know, HTC is currently reviewing Android 4.0 and will “determine upgrade plans” shortly with the idea NOT to make some of its phones slower.

We’ll definitely keep watching and let you know as soon as we hear something new. Stay tuned in the meantime…
