Some internal T-Mobile documents are indicating that the BlackBerry Torch 9810 may be headed their way soon. As is, AT&T is the only U.S. carrier offering the phone, but after the AWS version made its first appearance in Canada by way of a Wind Mobile announcement, it’s not a huge surprise to see T-Mobile working on releasing their version.
The BlackBerry Torch 9810 looks pretty much identical to the original 9800 from the outside: 3.2-inch touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Even OS 7 doesn’t introduce much of anything new in the function department, but it operates much more smoothly thanks to the 1.2 GHz processor, and the upgraded 640 x 480 display resolution is a nice touch. Of the current breed of OS 7 BlackBerry devices, the 9810 gets my top pick, but with BBX phones just around the corner, I’m not too keen on signing on for a multi-year contract just to see the platform pretty much die off. If you’re not looking for much beyond a strong messaging experience, you’re probably safe to pick one up (especially if T-Mobile matches AT&T’s $50 on-contract price point), but if you’re hungry for polished, high-performing apps, you might want to hold out until next year.
If you’re still interested in picking up a BlackBerry Torch 9810 on T-Mobile, the closest guess we have at a release date is November 9.
