In an effort that seems designed to reach modern smartphone users, British Library is launching mobile apps for iOS and Android devices for the upcoming exhibition. Titled “Royal Manuscripts: The Genius of Illumination,” it shows illuminated manuscripts collected by the kings and queens of England between the 9th and 16th centuries.
There are 58 of the illuminated manuscripts in high-resolution detail to explore, 500 images, and 6 videos of British Library experts exploring the history and detail of the manuscripts. Moreover, thanks to the functionality to star your favorite items, you can easily return to them and view them together in one place.
The regular “offline exhibition” opens on November 11th and until then iOS apps are discounted — not sure why the Android version didn’t receive the same treatment, though. So if you own an iPhone or iPad – act now; otherwise, if you’re an “Android guy/gal,” well, you can grab British Library’s app whenever suits you. 😉
