Marvel is going for on-the-go smartphone users and tablet owners. Their plan to start offer digital releases alongside print editions. In other words, no longer will you have to wait for the release of a digital version of some comic – it will be published on the same day its less “paper counterpart” is out.

The plan is to digitalize the full line of comic books except select third-party licensed works such as Stephen King’s The Stand books and MAX imprint. Moreover, the comic book giant will also trial a novel program to include a special code with every physical copy of a comic that can be redeemed for its digital equivalent. The initiative will start with Avenging Spider-Man 1, and will most likely expand to other comic books, considering both readers and retailers love the idea.

The way I see it, Marvel and other comic book publishers simply *must* be available on smartphones and tablets. It’s simply more convenient to have all your comics safely stored on a single device (and in the cloud)… rather than have your collection occupying couple of square meters, if not more. What do you say?
