Motorola Mobility is working on bringing a unique experience that is tailored for your living room or area. This experience includes a 6-inch Android 2.3 slate dubbed as the “Corvair,” which crosses television, tablet and smartphone in one group. The Corvair carries IR control and RF4CE, which allows you to turn this thing into a remote control. This same concept reminds me of what Sony has already done with its Sony Tablet S (read our review here).
According to The Verge, the Corvair is currently in testing with cable companies, and there’s a lot of mystery behind how it’s designed to be used. The device is supposed to work as a dedicated controller to be used to watch and stream content in addition to serving as a remote control for one of Motorola’s cable boxes. At the moment, not much is known when it comes to specs, but looking at the pics it’s safe to say that the product is optimized for low cost, so we’d assume there’s nothing on the high-end side included to blow us away.
Call me crazy, but this is the direction Google should go in the future when it comes to releasing the next generation of Google TV boxes, especially if things get ironed out between the pesky cable companies.
