Amazon AppStore gets updated to 2.0; adds UI enhancements and In-App Purchases

Amazon’s AppStore today pushed out its latest update (version 2.0) which adds some nice UI improvements. This update comes in perfect timing for next week’s release of the Kindle Fire.

The eCommerce giant has been locked in as of late announcing its acquisition of voice control company Yap and its support of “several thousand” big name apps. Other noteworthy settings have been added like the ability to enable In-App Purchases for one-time purchases and subscriptions, Parental Controls which allow unwarranted purchases by kids and access to view your gift card balance, so people can keep track of all the spending during the holidays. 2.0 looks much better when compared to the previous version with its use of larger fonts and darker colors.

Amazon claims this update ushers in faster downloads and shorter load times for each app. You can also expect the usual review the permissions feature before purchasing an app and lastly, bug fixes throughout the store. All in all, I think this doesn’t look nearly as good as the Android Marketplace, but it’s way better than what was offered before.

If you don’t yet have the appstore and would like to check it out, visit Amazon’s AppStore page.
