Rumor: Unnamed LG executive says next iPhone has a 4 inch screen, 7.35 inch iPad in the works

The iPhone 4S is barely a month old, yet rumors about its successor are already cropping up. According to an “insider” from LG, who is supposedly an executive according to Boy Genius Report, the 6th generation iPhone will pack a 4 inch display. Said screen will have the same resolution as the current 3.5 inch screen in the iPhone 4/4S, yet it’s supposedly cheaper to manufacture. We’re thinking LG probably gets better yields when building a 4 inch display with a DPI of 288 rather than the insane 330 DPI of today’s 3.5 inch Jesus Phone. But wait, the rumors don’t stop there! The unnamed LG insider also says that Apple plans on coming out with a 7.35 inch iPad. This doesn’t line up with a rumor we heard less than a month ago from the Taiwanese news agency Economic Daily News that said Apple would release a 7.85 inch tablet. Despite the conflicting data, this 7.35 inch rumors comes from The Korea Times, which is where LG is based out of, so we’ll take it a bit more seriously.

Now what we really want to know is what Apple is going to do with the next generation iPad, meaning the iPad 3. If a smaller iPad is in the works, likely at the $300 price point to compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire, then that means the iPad 3 will be a “premium” model that packs best of breed components. Rumors we heard last month from DigiTimes say that Apple is considering bumping up the resolution of the next iPad to 1600 x 1200 instead of the 2048 x 1536 resolution we’ve all been wanting for. The former would result in a DPI of 206 while the latter would deliver a more impressive 264. The problem isn’t making high resolution displays, Toshiba already showed off a 6.1 inch LCD that has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The issue is making said high resolution panels in the massive quantities that Apple needs to feed demand.

Anyway, expect the rumor mill to go more and more insane as the iPad 2 hits 1 year old.
