Flash coming to Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of the year

The Galaxy Nexus will be the first handset to ship with Ice Cream Sandwich and will include all the latest bells and whistles including facial recognition and improved notifications. Owners that snag one at launch may be surprised to discover that Adobe Flash is missing. This isn’t an oversight, but a purposeful delay by Google and Adobe. According to Google, “Flash hasn’t been released for ICS yet so as far as we know, Adobe will support Flash for ICS.” Adobe chimed in and confirmed  that it “will release one more version of the Flash Player for mobile browsing, which will give support for Android 4.0 — expected to be released before the end of this year.”

These statements are important in light of Adobe’s recent announcement that it’s ending development of Flash for mobile devices. Adobe is dropping Android and dedicating its resources towards HTML5 and Flash for the desktop browser. Though it’s ending development, the media software company confirmed it will support Android one last time. This will likely be the last hurrah for Flash on the Android platform, so we should enjoy it while we can.
