While it’s pretty painful to watch Verizon do the same thing for a highly anticipated Android phone, the desire for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus hasn’t waned in the least bit. That said, with all the hype that’s been surrounding the handset, some still haven’t gotten the name right. In the past two days, both Amazon and Best Buy have advertised (in one way or another) different names for the Galaxy Nexus by digging up the older Nexus Prime moniker.
First up is Amazon, which not only claims the handset is the Nexus Prime but the Samsung Galaxy S II Nexus Prime 4G. While this is likely just a placeholder for the real deal, it is a little odd to see the Nexus Prime name pop up again and even more strange to see it sit next to the Galaxy S II name. While those in the know won’t question whether or not the Galaxy Nexus is in the Galaxy S family, average consumers likely won’t know or care what the phone is called when it finally becomes available.
The second flub is from Best Buy in a new ad for the handset (which you see as the main image for this post). This time around, the name of the phone is the Samsung Nexus Prime 4G LTE. The idea that Amazon had placed the wrong name on its site for a phone is believable enough but it’s pretty odd to see an actual printed ad from Best Buy with a such a name. Still, this isn’t the first time Best Buy has word-vomited in an ad, as it once advertised the HP TouchPad as having Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
It really does seem that these are just a few slip ups on the parts of Amazon and Best Buy and nothing more. That said, I do miss the Nexus Prime name and I believe it’s a much better name than Galaxy Nexus ever could be. Either way, at this point in the game, no one cares what the phone is called. They just want to be able to give money to someone to get the damn thing.
Do you think it’s a possibility that the Nexus Prime name could pop up at the last second?
