Official: White AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket starts shipping this Sunday

When PocketNow posted photos of a white version of the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, but failed to say when it would actually start shipping, we found it incredibly difficult to contain ourselves. The Rocket in black is nice device, there’s no denying that. It has a gorgeous 4.5 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, versus a regular Super AMOLED display that just isn’t quite as nice when reproducing colors and rendering text smoothly; a wicked fast 1.5 GHz dual core processor, note that it’s a Samsung Exynos processor in there too, which is better than an equivalent 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor; and of course the pièce de résistance is the ability to access AT&T’s 4G LTE network, which arguably isn’t as large as Verizon’s, but it’ll get there … eventually. According to AT&T’s Facebook page the white version isn’t just a lust-worthy render, it’s a real device, and it’s coming out this Sunday, the 4th of December. We think it’ll cost the same as the black version, $250 with a 2 year contract, but we don’t have any confirmation on that.

If you’re the kind of person who buys a device based on how it looks versus what’s inside, i.e. someone who didn’t care how bad the UI on the original Motorola RAZR was, then the white Skyrocket is perfect. If you’re a mobile geek, then you shouldn’t even be considering the Rocket, you should either be in the process of importing a European HSPA+ Samsung Galaxy Nexus or waiting for Verizon to launch the CDMA/LTE version later this month. Now there are rumors that there’s going to be a white Motorola RAZR, but we haven’t seen renders of it, much less official photos, so it’s kind of hard to tell whether or not it’ll be as seductive as other white smartphones.

What do you think, is white the new black and should handset vendors get more creative when it comes to colors? Just look at Nokia, they’ve got orange, blue, green, pink, brown, and silver devices!
