SugarSync intros new photo, video syncing features for iOS, Android

SugarSync, a cloud storage and syncing service that competes with the more familiar Dropbox, updated its apps for iOS and Android today with some new features for media content. The iPhone and iPad get some cool new tools for keeping photos in sync, while Android gets an even more impressive way to sync your videos – not an easy task to accomplish, considering the large file sizes.

First, let’s tackle the iOS update, which SugarSync calls its “Most Photolicious iPhone/iPad App Ever.” Batch photo upload is a welcome feature here, as you simply select all the photos you want to sync and it gets synced even if the app is closed – instead of the previous tedious process of choosing a photo, uploading, choosing another photo, uploading, and so on until you start to reevaluate the life decisions that led you to that point. You can also control the upload quality of photos and videos to prioritize quality over speed.

One last tidbit for the iOS app: the Photos tab has been completely redesigned for ease of access to albums and speedy browsing.

The Android app update focuses on videos instead of photos, but for good reason. You can now film a video on your Android smartphone, and SugarSync will back it up over WiFi and sync it back to your computer. No wires are necessary. Apple doesn’t offer a wireless solution for syncing videos automatically, so SugarSync is pushing the envelope here in a really innovative way.

SugarSync offers 5GB of storage for free, with upgrade options for those who don’t mind paying for more. The app updates are already live for iOS and Android, so run off and indulge in the benefits.
