Trend Micro struck an agreement with Verizon Wireless to offer its mobile security software through Verizon Apps on select Android devices. Under the deal, Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition will be available for download for such devices as HTC DROID Incredible 2, Motorola DROID X2, CASIO G’zOne Commando, HTC ThunderBolt, LG Revolution and Samsung DROID Charge.

Located in the Utilities category of Verizon Apps, the application offers anti-malware app scanning for free with premium features available for a $2.50 monthly subscription or $30 per year. Speaking of which [premium features], Trend Micro’s solution offers an app scanner, lost device protection and enhanced security to block threats as well as inappropriate content while surfing the web, calling or texting.

Now do you need a security solution for your Android device? In a word – no, but you need to be careful to install apps only from trusted sources and to watch what kind of permissions they ask. If you just read the screen and use common sense – you’re good to go. If you think an extra protection is needed (or don’t want to bother) – well, grab Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition or some similar software. It’s your call…
