Video: Samsung takes another pot shot at the iPhone, hipsters end up “Samsung’d”

Companies rarely insult each other in public these days, for reasons we don’t quite understand; being politically correct is boring. Samsung though, they’re on a roll. It started out with an ad that showed a bunch of people waiting in line for the iPhone 4S when all of a sudden they see a Samsung Galaxy S II and become immediately enthralled with the device’s 4.3 inch screen, 4G LTE speeds, and so on and so forth. Their latest ad uses the same format, with a bunch of hipsters waiting in line for the next iPhone when all of a sudden the roommate of one of the people in line comes to drop off an iPhone charger. The Samsung that the roommate who is dropping off the charger is using alerts him to the fact that he’s arrived at his destination, indicating that he has a turn by turn navigation app. That is of course Google Navigation, which comes with just about every Android phone on the market. This upsets the Apple fans when they find out that such an app is bundled with the phone, and one of the chubbier ones proclaims: “We’ve just been Samsung’d!”

Will this ad sell more devices? Honestly, who the hell cares? It’s brilliant entertainment that starts a discussion. Some Android fans hate Apple and their products for reasons that don’t make any sense, and likewise some Apple fans refuse to buy anything that wasn’t designed by the folks in Cupertino. With this ad both camps can laugh at each other. That being said, we’re amazed to see how popular Samsung has become over the past few years. It’s widely expected that this will even be the year that they ships more devices than Nokia, something that no one has managed to do for nearly a decade and a half.

It’s easy to see why with devices like the Galaxy Nexus.
