Are you an iPad owner who grabs your tablet and places it in your lap to read? According to a study from researchers at Harvard’s School of Public Health, you may be holding your tablet wrong. The researchers claim that gazing down at an iPad in your lap puts pressure on the joints in your neck and shoulders. If you do it long enough, it can cause neck and shoulder pain that’s being called iPad shoulder.

Researchers recommend you hold your device somewhere between vertical and flat so you don’t overly strain your neck or shoulder muscles. They also recommend you change positions frequently when holding the device and a get a good, comfortable case. If you’re really desperate, you can always build the ultimate couch potato stand.
