HTC seeking Sony PlayStation certification

We’ve got great news for all you gamers, HTC is looking to be one of the first manufacturers outside Sony to get PlayStation certification for its mobile devices. Soon HTC smartphone and tablet owners could be able to play Sony PlayStation certified games.

This is a huge shift in strategy because only consumers who owned handsets like the Xperia Play who is were afforded the exclusive access to these games. The PlayStation Suite has, so far, been limited to Sony and Sony Ericsson hardware. The deal could be announced as early as Mobile World Congress later this month, with full certification in the second half of the year, according to sources obtained by Pocket-lint.

To better put this move in perspective, I asked Marin Perez, our Managing Editor, his thoughts on the matter and he responded by saying, “It’s smart for Sony but I don’t see many other handset makers pushing this beyond experiments.” He then gave the company some props on the recently debuted Vita. “Sony should give me the PlayStation Vita as a phone and I’d be happy.”

Not much of a gamer myself, but I respect what Sony is doing here. At least they’re trying to stay relevant in the super competitive world of mobile gaming, instead of remaining stubborn sitting on the side line like some other oversees gaming platform we know *cough* Nintendo.
