Samsung introduces the projector-packing Galaxy Beam

Samsung is kicking off Mobile World Congress early with a pair of Android devices that’ll both dazzle and disappoint. Earlier, we heard about the the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2, an Ice Cream Sandwich tablet that’ll replace the current 10-inch Galaxy Tab. Now its time to say hello to the Galaxy Beam. The Beam is your standard dual-core Android phone, except it has a 15 lumens projector, which will let  you project your video clips, maps, and presentations as an image up to 50-feet wide. It’s designed to work well in your home, lecture hall or conference room.

Besides its ability to project, the Beam  also sports a 1 GHz dual-core processor,  4-inch (WVGA:480×800) TFT display, Quad-band 14.4 Mbps HSPA connectivity, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone ships with 8GB of internal memory and a microSD slot that’ll support up to 32 GB. Unlike the Galaxy Tab 2 which will ship with Android 4.0, the Galaxy Beam will sadly debut with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

If you’re looking for a projector phone, the Beam may be worth a closer look. Otherwise, you’ll want to wait for some exciting, non-Gingerbread devices to come down the pike. MWC hasn’t even started yet and we expect to see several spectacular phones in the next few days.
