Hands-on: Nokia Lumia 610 at MWC 2012 [Video]

The latest member of Nokia’s family of Windows Phone devices, Lumia 610, is catered toward first-time smartphone buyers, offering quite a bang for the buck. Like previous Lumia models, it too is available in several colors, including white, cyan, magenta and black.

On the front of the phone, there’s a 3.7-inch screen, along with standard Windows keys. On the side, you’ll find volume up/down and camera buttons; while the top is reserved for microUSB port and a 3.5mm headset jack. Finally, there’s a 5-megapixel camera with flash and speaker on the back.

Inside, the Lumia 610 hides Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S1 CPU clocking at 800MHz and a 7.2Mbps HSDPA radio.

The phone itself is made out of hard plastic with a metallic bezel on the front of the device. As such (and given the fact it will be available in familiar Nokia colors), it’s similar to other Nokia Windows Phone devices, and yes it’s getting hard to differentiate between all of ’em.

Overall, Nokia may have a hit phone at its hands, the one that will further strengthen its position as the leading maker of Windows Phones. I can easily imagine carriers all around the world offering the Lumia 610 for free on contracts starting at about $20 a month. Off contract, Nokia says the Lumia 610 will be available for 189 EUR, which translates into about $253.

We’ll see whether such a low-end Windows Phone device will help Microsoft get a more significant market share and in the meantime, here are the Lumia 610 photos we prepared:
